I recently came across another account of someone abusing the privilege of being a spiritual teacher or healer.
Lauren Geertsen @body_connection_coach in her new book The Scorpion And The Lion tells the story of a senior energy healer and founder of the holistic school she graduated from, who groomed her as a young client + student to become his lover, using black magic, and holding her to secrecy. The community around them did not support her speaking out. It’s a heartbreaking story, but Lauren transmuted it and deeply healed herself.
I wrote a story about this, now almost 3 years ago, of something similar. Someone at the top of the spiritual pop culture heap who did the same. I had to keep my story anonymous because he is so litigious. It was published on a blog despite legal threats, and I’m happy to say 30,000+ people have read it and now know who he is, in his fullness.
At the time of publishing, many people stepped up to support me. There were others who not only fumbled things at the time it occurred, psychiatrists with a front row seat, but they also declined to corroborate my story for a more mainstream release, so the media wouldn’t touch it.
It was a disappointment to say the least, another betrayal of their silence while knowing the truth. I had found the courage to go back into the past to tell my story some 25 years later, and they were sitting there immobile, afraid for their own future. That’s on them. I know that I did my part. I had to trust the process, wherever it led. I did it for another person it may have happened to with him, or for others anywhere else with a similar story. Of which, there are many.
We are in a time when it’s about revealing this shadow. The dark side of wellness. Where people create self-help empires and they’re not actually WELL, or integrated, or channeling any kind of true Light.
In my case, this person had endorsed many others who then built their careers on his name, so it’s truly all a house of cards.
Because it matters energetically. They are on the shoulders of his disgrace. And I do believe they know it. Some part of them does, at least.
It’s why I’m so contentious with this wellness industry. Churning out self-help idols with glossy catchphrases diverting people from their own power. I have written about this a great deal in IG. (Libby at Speaking Of Energy here on Substack, has truly shed light, in depth, on many of these mainstream gurus and highly recommend her Highlights on IG where you will find them stored).
So when someone steps out and has the courage to call out false light, we should listen. It’s a step in how we can create something altogether new.
Please read Lauren’s story. Or anyone else’s that has walked over the hot coals of spiritual betrayal. It’s nothing to be feared this truth-telling and everything to be revered.
Wow Ryan, if this is the launching point, things are only going to become more exciting from here! Keep handing out the flashlights as we continue to expose the darkest of dark corners and crevices. I could not ask for better company on this adventure.
